Valerie's Workshops

Collage: Small Scale Art Quilts
This workshop invites you to step outside the grid of traditional quilting patterns & experience free-form collage design. Valerie will lead you through a simple, spontaneous approach to design & will set design challenges. Work with a variety of fabric4s, including many exotic African fabrics, as part of the process. You’ll learn to look for design cues within the fabric, & complete several small compositions. Using mainly fusible appliqué techniques for collage, this workshop is a fresh & fun way to look at the design process.
2 days, January 26 & 27

Land, Sea & Sky: Landscapes to Appliqué & Embellish
Spend 3 inspiring days making small scale landscapes using methods & techniques from Valerie’s new book Points of View. An easy pattern method & free-form collage lead you to spontaneous landscape compositions in fabric. Explore a variety of methods to colour fabrics, including freezer paper stencils, oil paint sticks, coloured pencils, & transfer disperse dyes to paint stunning skies to use in the class projects. Other techniques used are hand appliqué, fusible appliqué, stitchery and embellishment. Leave this workshop bursting with an abundance of ideas.
