Playing on the Surface - 2 Days, October 18 & 19
With Gloria’s expert guidance, discover the keys to creating quilts
in an abstract style. Experiment with patterns & colors, & work
through design strategies for success. Audition new color schemes,
learn new stitching techniques & go on to create your
own
interpretation
of your
chosen subject. Begin with a segment covering design principles, &
information revealing ways to choose stunning & effective colour
combinations. Breaking up the background into many smaller segments,
move on to decorate the surface of each one with a myriad of shapes,
providing extra detail
with
machine embroidery. Gloria shares her 'easy to master' construction
techniques & gives insights into ideas for quilting designs. The
information & techniques covered in this class will open up a whole
new world of quiltmaking for you.

Paint a Landscape with Fabric - 3 Days, October 20, 21 & 22
Design your own landscape quilt, learning the key elements of
design. Begin with discovering the fundamental design principles,
including focal point, perspective &, more. Work from a photo,
sketch, or picture to design your own wall quilt. Choose to work in
an abstract or realistic
way, or anywhere
in between. Learn about exciting
color
combinations before
moving on to paint your own unique
fabrics. Consider piecing & mosaic options for different areas; then
using an overlay technique, construct your quilt. Embellish with
machine embroidery & quilting for extra texture & dimension. Look at
various options for borders, quilting, and bindings. In this
workshop, you will be challenged to produce your own design, and
will find expert support through each stage of the process.
