& Inspirational Event
February 4 to 8, 2012 Canmore, Alberta, Canada |
David Taylor - February 4th to 8th, 2012

David's obsession with fabric began at an early age, salvaging tiny
scraps from his mother's sewing area trash bin. This began his love
& appreciation for fabric. Throughout his 20-year career in graphic
design, he received more than 100 regional & national awards for
layout & design. In 2001, David's obsession with fabric turned into
an obsession for quilting as art. In 2006, David discovered a love
for hand-appliqué, & all of his works since then have been stitched
together by hand, & quilted by machine. He has achieved much acclaim
in the quilting community, creating lovely award-winning artwork
(including 2 Best of Shows at Quilt Festival in Chicago), often with
a nature-inspired theme. David works full-time as a studio artist,
quilt teacher & speaker.

David's
Workshops
Introductory Applique Workshop
In this workshop, you will learn David Taylor's hand-appliqué techniques,
working with simple appliqué shapes and no points! This is achieved using
David's "Yin-yang" appliqué technique. The class will also cover the
construction of pictorial wall quilts with a digital slide projection show.
Learn to create beautiful details from simple shapes by letting the fabric
choices do all the hard work. A purchased pattern is required for all students.
2 days, February 4 & 5
Pictorial Applique Workshop
A multi-day workshop designed for students already having a basic
understanding of appliqué techniques. David begins with demonstrating the
adaptation of a photograph or drawing into a wall quilt, using hand-appliqué and
piecing techniques. A simple subject with a nice detail works best for these
methods. Dedicated time is spent on tracing and pattern drawing, along with
fabric selection - which is key to the success of this process. David teaches
students to create beautiful details from simple shapes and by letting the
fabric do all the hard work. David also demonstrates his appliqué technique for
invisible stitching, and finishes up with quilting and binding options. David
provides in-depth personalized information on choices of imagery prior to the
workshop, as well as helpful guidance regarding fabric and pattern processes, to
help you maximize your workshop experience.
