Laura Wasilowski

Laura Wasilowski is a contemporary quilt artist, author, teacher, and creator of hand dyed fabrics and threads. She has an undergraduate degree in Costuming and a Master of Art degree in Fiber. Laura loves fabric. For many years Laura created hand-dyed fabrics for garments that she sold in boutiques across the country. It was a friendly neighbor who introduced Laura to her current flame, the art quilt. This latest love is a marriage of fabric, color and whimsy that she truly enjoys. Laura hand dyes fabric and thread for her business, Artfabrik. Laura’s work is infused with colour, vitality and personality. Laura’s recent book, Fusing Fun! Fast Fearless Art Quilts, published by C & T, shows her fun and low-stress approach to her art quilts. 

Woodcut Quilts -
Adapt the graphic impact of woodcuts to quiltmaking. Create beautiful woodcut inspired quilts by free cutting fused fabrics in intricate shapes and ironing them on black fabric. Learn free cutting, pattern transfer, and the design secrets of the woodcut quilt. This type of art quilt construction is painstaking and so only one small quilt can be completed in one day. Fusing Fun: Fast Fearless Art -
Toss the templates and trash the rulers! Fusing is free form art making at its best. Working with fusible web on fabric, discover fusing techniques like free cutting, strip fusing, confetti collage, playing blocks, and improvisational assemblage. The grand mystery of a woodcut quilt is also revealed. In this class you will create multiple pieces of fun, fast, free, fused fiber art and get bonus, learn loose, really loose. Hear tunes from the Chicago School of Fusing Glee Club and graduate with an advanced degree in Fusology. 3 days, March 12, 13 & 14. Kit fee TBA.
